Who is Mphasa Mokhochane
Mr Mphasa Mokhochane is the IEC Chairman starting from December 2020. The Chairman oversees Legal, Finance and Operations Inspector departments. Mr Mokhochane’s expetise are in management and administration of elections.
The Chairman is well versed in leadership, he is the Former Deputy Director of Elections at IEC Lesotho. In his capacity as Deputy Director of Elections a position he held between 1997- 2018, he oversaw finances, human resource management, planning and the overall management of the organisation. His zeal and ability to serve and lead led to him becoming Acting Director of Elections on two occassions in 1998-1999 and from 2007-2014.
Under his leaderhip as Acting Director of Elections he oversaw the running of the 1998 and 2012 National Elections and the second Local Government Elections held in 2011.While at the IEC he was assigned to supervise the formulation and supervision of parliamentary seats of the National Assembly in the general elections that were held in : 2002, 2007, 2012, and 2017 which were conducted under the Mixed Member Propotional System (MMP). Before joining IEC Mr. Mokhochane was a teacher from 1986- 1997 where he went up the ranks of teaching to hold the position of Deputy Principal.
Mr Mokhochane holds Bachelor of Science in Education from the National University of Lesotho and Post-Graduate Diploma in Education in Mathematics from Rand Afrikaans University, South Africa
